Netflix’s new animated series Lookism has been all the buzz lately, leaving many fans desperate for more episodes.
Based on a popular webcomic of the same name, Netflix teases the show as, “A high school student awakes one morning to discover that he now has a handsome face and a perfect body.” The series debuted on the streamer with eight episodes on Dec. 8.
While reviewing the series, Decider’s Brittany Vincent complimented the performance by Susan Haruye Ioka, who plays the lead’s mother. She wrote, “Ioka brings a convincing warmth to the character that tugs at your heartstrings. You can feel the pain in her heart when she sees her son being bullied and hurt at school, and it cuts like a knife.”

Will there be a Season 2 of Lookism?
Unfortunately, Netflix has not yet shared any plans for a second season, but that isn’t alarming as the show just premiered yesterday. So far, the streamer is doing a regular amount of promotion for the show across its social media platforms, which is promising.
The animated studio behind the project, Studio Mir, has a long-running relationship with Netflix, having worked on The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf and DOTA: Dragon’s Blood, the latter of which has premiered for three steady seasons.
So, it doesn’t look like the streaming giant is looking to cut ties.
But on the flip side, Netflix has a rocky track record with animated programs and this year saw a major hit to the department’s budget and staff. And in October, it was reported by Weekly Toyo Keizai (per Cartoon Brew) that the streamer was cutting back on anime, specifically targeting animation studios in Japan. However, it’s important to note that Studio Mir is based out of Korea.
