Woman with world’s longest fingernails struggles using bathroom, zipping pants

She’s nailed it.

A Minnesota woman has entered the Guinness Book of Records for having the world’s longest fingernails — but it’s not all glory for the grandmother who says she struggles with everyday activities.

Diana Armstrong, 64, hasn’t trimmed her talons since 1997, and they now collectively measure a mighty 42ft 10.4in.

“I haven’t been to a nail salon for about 22 years,” she told the Daily Star on Wednesday, saying that her grandchildren now act as her manicurists.

The Guinness World Record holder revealed that each nail takes “about 10 hours to polish” and that a woodwork tool is needed to file them.

Armstrong added that it takes up to 20 bottles of nail polish to paint her talons, saying: “I painted them last week and it took four days!”

But the monumental maintenance isn’t the only issue the Minnesota grandma faces, with the nails inhibiting mandatory life events from using the restroom to dressing.

Armstrong struggles to zip up her pants and jackets and needs a knife to pop open a can of soda.

“I drove a car but had to stick my hand out the window, so I don’t drive anymore,” she stated.

As for using the toilet, Armstrong didn’t disclose whether there were any issues at home. However, she admitted that public restrooms present a challenge.

“I need to use the biggest stall,” the grandmother declared. “My nails are usually longer than the regular-sized stalls.”

Armstrong has taken over the Guinness World Record from Texas woman Ayanna Williams, who last year cut off her incredibly long nails after growing them for almost three decades.

However, Armstrong has no intention of trimming her talons, saying there’s a sentimental reason why she’s let them grow so long.

The mom heartbreakingly revealed that she hasn’t cut her nails since her 16-year-old daughter, Latisha, died from an asthma attack back in 1997.

Armstrong didn't disclose how she types on her laptop, however she admitted that she no longer drives a car as she has to have her nails hanging out the window.

“That was the worst day of my life,” Armstrong sadly stated. “The day before, she’d spent time polishing and filling my nails, so after that, I just couldn’t cut my nails off.

“My nails are a part of me,” she added. “I can’t ever imagine cutting them off.”
