Yankees miss Aaron Judge's bat on a rare rest day after a tough stretch

Cleveland — In the big picture, Aaron Boone removed Aaron Judge from the starting lineup on Sunday, even if the team's holiday was waiting for him on Monday.

In the long run, and perhaps on Tuesday, the Yankees could benefit, given how the judges responded to this season's rest days, but the Yankees are Sunday. I missed an MVP candidate and collected only one hit. Lost to Guardians2-0 in Progressive Field.

The judge was a two-out, two-runner, beating Jose Trebino in the ninth inning, but faced a large number of sliders close to the Guardians' Emanuel Klaas and to load the base. I settled down for a walk. Before Aaron Hicks stranded to end the game.

At the top of the 8th inning, the Yankees dragged 1-0 against Guardians reliever Eli Morgan, and Boone was Isiah Kinerfarefa's DJ LeMahieu and Marwin Gonzalez's Matt Carpenter. Was hit on behalf of. However, he postponed the full-line change, allowing Joey Gallo, who is struggling, to strike out himself, dropping to 1:32 in 18 strikeouts in the last 13 games.

"I was going to wait for [use the judge]" Boon said. "I didn't want the judges to play in the match today unless I had a runner, and I knew the potential situation was coming back for us in the ninth place. I kept it disciplined. "

After the judge played both games on Saturday's doubleheader, 20 games of stretch in 20 days On the penultimate day, Boone took the outfielder to his office and said he was absent from Sunday. The judge fought him "a little" about it, Boone said.

"But we have really good communication about it," said the manager. "I think he understands. He always wants to be there. But I was pretty convicted on [Saturday] night."

Judges played 78 of the Yankees' 80 games, and Sunday was the fifth day of the season's starting lineup. Three times from the first four days off, he came back to hit two home runs in the next game.

Boone also wanted to avoid playing on the field, so he was waiting for a pinch hitter judge until Sunday nine times. This meant Carpenter's right fielder in the bottom of the eighth inning (his first outfielder appearance since 2014) after a veteran pinch hitter was struck at the top of the inning.

Carpenter didn't hit the ball, but he was wary of backing up his play on first base.

"Let's strip off the band-aid today," Boone said. "Obviously there was Aaron over there, but I didn't want to put him in the field if I didn't need it today, so I was like," Let's roll with Carp. " He had a really good turn at bat from Morgan. Morgan just ended up lasting longer than he did. But I'm glad I took him there.
