Claudius Tei’ifi Wins West Kwaio Parliamentary Seat

Claudius Tei'ifi has won the West Kwaio Parliamentary seat. The newly elected MP contested under the Solomon Islands United Party (UP) banner.

Returning Officer Pearson Simi declared Mr Tei'ifi as the MP elect for the constituency after counting concluded this evening.

He says, Mr Tei'ifi polled the majority of votes than the other candidates who contested for the seat. The United Party candidate is among the six candidates who contested in the by-election.

There were five (5) male candidates with one (1) female candidate, of which two (2) are party candidates and four (4) contested as independents.

The bye-election was made necessary after the passing of the sitting MP for West Kwaio Constituency, Titus Mokofi Fika. He passed on in the early hours of Friday morning, 19th November 2021.

He was the Minister for Environment, Climate Change, Disaster Management, and Meteorology under the Sogavare-led Democratic Coalition Government for Advancement (DCGA), at the time of his passing.
