Activist group “The Movement” celebrates eight years this year

The Movement celebrates eight years this year, September being our anniversary month. So let me take this opportunity to extend congratulations and well wishes to all Movementeers and to our organization, on this achievement.

The Movement from its inception in 2015, has sought to be the facilitator of social and political awakening which are antecedents to the much-needed change we envisage for Antigua and Barbuda.

Our major offering is our weekly meeting forum; and also for a significant number of those years we hosted Movement Radio.

Together these provided the platform for the interrogating of social and political issues intended not only to raise consciousness but also to move people into action at every level of the change chain.

While the COVID-19 pandemic presented challenges, the organization continued to meet via the Zoom platform.

This allowed for expansive outreach. We were also able to tap into the energies of the Antiguans and Barbudans in the diaspora as well as tap into the expertise of many individuals regionally and internationally, who graced The Movement podium.

The Movement therefore  expresses profound thanks to all of these individuals.

Special thanks also to the many individuals on the ground who joined The Movement as well as members who continued to check in over the last 3 years, undoubtedly our most trying years.

For our 8th year, The Movement is at the most critical time of its life. We ponder questions about our relevance; about our commitment to the ideals of The Movement and its vision for a better Antigua and Barbuda; about our democracy and our relative role in it.

At this 8th anniversary milestone, we call on members to recommit to this noble cause and calling: The Movement.

At our recently held Come Back Meeting the following were agreed upon: To continue to encourage members to fill out the membership survey administered via Survey Monkey; to continue our Friday night virtual meetings, with a face-to-face/ hybrid meeting every other month.

Our AGM is slated for November, here the organization will relook at its constitution, determine strategic direction, and elect officers to run the organization for the next year.

Meanwhile, members are encouraged to regularize their statuses (pay registration fees and dues), and attend meetings which are the obligations of membership.
