Antigua on High Alert as Tropical Storm Philippe and Disturbance Pose Dual Threats

NHC – Tropical Storm Philippe, situated about 560 miles east of the Northern Leeward Islands, is anticipated to meander slowly in the coming days, prompting vigilance in the Northern Leeward Islands, Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico.

As of 500 AM AST, Philippe had maximum sustained winds of 50 mph and was moving west-northwest at 5 mph.

A gradual west-northwestward to westward trajectory is expected, followed by a slower westward to west-southwestward movement over the weekend.

While little change in strength is predicted in the short term, slight weakening may occur later.

Philippe could produce 1 to 3 inches of rain, potentially leading to localized urban and small stream flooding impacts across affected areas.

Midway between Cabo Verde and the Lesser Antilles, AL91 is showing potential for tropical development, with a 90 percent chance of forming a depression or storm in the next 48 hours.
