HONG KONG, July 20 — Hong Kong actor Simon Yam Tat-wah was stabbed by a man while attending a promotional event in the city of Zhongshan, Guangdong province this morning.
Live footage of the attack posted on China’s twitter-like social media platform Weibo showed the 64-year-old handing out gifts to guests on stage before a man calmly walked up the stage and lunged at him with a knife.
The man stabbed and slashed at Yam repeatedly before being restrained by security guards and fellow bystanders.
Yam’s manager told the South China Morning Post that the actor was stabbed in the stomach and suffered slash wounds to his arm, adding that his condition was not critical but his injuries were still being assessed.
“A preliminary investigation showed his injuries were not critical but the doctors are still deciding whether to operate on him in Zhongshan or whether we can wait until we return [to Hong Kong].
“I understand the management of Easyhome is panicking and waiting to hear back from Zhongshan public security for an update,” the manager was quoted as saying.
