Youth critically injured after father allegedly shoots him during drinking session

SIBU: A youth sustained critical injuries after he was believed to have been shot by his father during a drinking session in Selangau on Tuesday (Aug 4).

After the shooting, which happened at the family's home in Kampung Keranji Madu, the 48-year-old father fled.

Mukah OCPD Deputy Supt Jimmy Panyau said policemen rushed to the scene at 5.30pm Tuesday after being alerted by the public.

"The victim suffered injuries to his left shoulder, fingers and right knee. He was conscious when police arrived at the scene," he said.

He said a homemade shotgun or "bakakok" was found not far from the scene and was confiscated as evidence.

"The victim was earlier sent to Selangau health clinic before being referred to Sibu Hospital for further treatment.

"Efforts to locate the suspect (father) are underway and the cause of the shooting is still under investigation," added DSP Jimmy.
