Antigua & Barbuda witnesses a surge in homicides, toll reaches six

LOOP NEWS – The escalation of homicides in Antigua and Barbuda has become a cause for concern, marking a significant shift from the peaceful start to the year, which witnessed no murders in the first quarter.

Now, the country has had a total of six murders, with four occurring within the past four weeks.

The most recent tragic incident unfolded on a Saturday night in Parham when 37-year-old Lance “Lenny” Williams fell victim to a fatal shooting.

The attack transpired around 10 pm, and despite undergoing surgery at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Center, Williams succumbed to his injuries the following morning at approximately 6 am.

The shooting reportedly occurred while Williams was engrossed in a game of football in his community.

Reports suggest that the assailants arrived in a vehicle, and unleashed a barrage of gunfire on Williams.

The first murder of the year occurred in May when 25-year-old Roudi Shamarly became the victim of a deadly shooting during a robbery. Just six weeks later, another tragedy struck as Jahfari Isaac, also 25, lost his life in a separate shooting incident in Willikies.

In mid-August, a double shooting incident resulted in the untimely demise of a young woman and the eventual passing of a young man. Nia Rose, aged 20, tragically fell victim to a fatal shooting in the Green Bay area, while 24-year-old Keneca Ryan fought for his life in the hospital for several days before succumbing to his injuries.

Before Ryan’s passing, another tragedy struck as 66-year-old Dennis Edwards was fatally stabbed during a confrontation.
