Mediation Ongoing to Resolve Pricing Conflict for Cancer Centre Acquisition

The government has taken ownership of the closed Cancer Centre, but negotiations with the former owner, Dr. Conville Browne, continue over the purchase price.

The government appraised the facility’s value at EC$6-$9 million, while Browne has requested US$15 million (EC$40.5 million).

The centre, built on Crown land, also carries debts amounting to EC$6.9 million. Chief of Staff Lionel Hurst confirmed ongoing mediation due to Browne’s high asking price.

Despite the dispute, the government is now officially responsible for maintaining the property.

Following the centre’s closure on April 30, the government passed a resolution to compulsorily purchase the facility to address the public need for its services.

Minister of Health Molwyn Joseph assured residents that overseas treatment costs would be covered temporarily while ensuring proper care during this challenging period.
