Attorney General Says Meeting with Crown Counsels Was Fruitful

Anthony Sylvestre

According to the Fin Sec, the issue concerns compensation that prosecutors have raised should be adequately addressed by the end of October. We also heard from Attorney General, Anthony Sylvestre. We asked him why is it that prosecutors had to stage a sickout for their concerns to be addressed in the manner that it was today. Here is how he responded.

Anthony Sylvestre, Attorney General

“As I indicated before and I reiterate, as it relates to the crowns that had sent in notifications, I took that to be genuine, because if it were otherwise we wouldn’t have reached this point. We as lawyers we have this saying, when someone else captures something, the essence of what you would say, and I think the Fin Sec captured the essence of what I would have said, I will simply just adopt and endorse what the Fin Sec has said as it relates to the meetings we have had and the outcome, a very positive outcome. So, I can say that we are assured that the matters that have been in the public sphere this week, that those issues or concerns that may have been the public domain that those have been addressed and we will be able to move forward with the administration of justice, being able to work probably.”

“The DDP has been burdened with a heavier workload over the last few days. Does that change now, do we have those persons who called in sick now feeling better and we are going to resume with a full staff?”

Anthony Sylvestre

“Well I don’t know administratively in terms of who all had called in sick, but I am sure persons who were ill would have been temporarily ill. So, I do suspect that has to come to an end at some point. I suspect that will be very shortly.”
