Prosecutors’ Security Concerns Have Been Addressed Says AG

Following today’s meeting, News Five received credible information that all crown counsels who called in sick this week will return to work on Monday, as they are now feeling well. The National Trade Union Congress of Belize has issued a release stating that it stands in solidarity with the prosecutors. The release says “the NTUCB calls on the Government of Belize to immediately find the funding to properly resource the Job Classification and Compensation Unit (JCCU) within the Ministry of the Public Service, Constitutional and Political Reform and Religious Affairs to address this matter and other compensation package anomalies with the Public Service”. We also asked AG Sylvestre about the security concerns raised by prosecutors.

“As I have said before there are security arrangements that have been put in place. It behooves us to state publicly what are the extent of those arrangements, but sufficed to say security arrangements have been put in place and I am confident that those address the concerns that have been expressed. We live in an evolving society where it is true that crime has taken on different levels and indeed regarded as being more egregious. That being said, security arrangements, must necessary be able to meet with these new changing demands and we have put in place necessary mechanisms to address and deal with the changing times and evolving criminality as we now see as a country.”
