1 stabbed dead during AL factional clash in Dhaka's Korail slum

A man was stabbed to death and at least seven others were injured during a clash between two groups of Awami League activists at Korail slum in Dhaka's Banani area last night (August 17, 2022).

The deceased was identified as Al Amin, a grocery shop owner.

Nur-e-Azam Mia, officer in-charge of Banani Police Station, said the clash took place between two groups of AL activists in the slum, leaving one dead and several injured.

There was a dispute between the groups over the formation of a committee, he said.

Some locals including Zubair, Nasir, another Al Amin Foyez and Kamal first attacked grocery shop owner Al Amin as he went to a local mosque for Esha prayer. They later stabbed and beat up the others. Then a clash broke out between the two groups, leaving them injured,witnesses said.

The injured are Masud Alam (18), Amjad Hossain (35), Nur Alam (30), Joly Akter (40) Sumi Begum (35), Nasir Hossain (40) and Dalia Begum (40).

The posts or political identities of the deceased and injured could not be known immediately.

The body was sent to the hospital morgue for an autopsy.
