4 arrested by DB for smuggling over 500 sarees, lehengas from India

Detective Branch (DB) of Feni police last night (August 7, 2022) recovered 515 pieces of smuggled Indian sarees and 270 pieces of three-piece lehengas and arrested four people, including a former leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League.

A covered-van used for smuggling was also seized.

The price of these Indian sarees and lehengas has been estimated at around Tk 15.22 lakh.

The arrestees were identified as Anwar Hossain Avi (35), former organising secretary of BCL and member of ward no 9 of Radhanagar Union Parishad under Chhagalnaiya upazila; his associate Nur Alam Tushar Chowdhury (28); driver of the covered van Shahadat Hossain (28); and driver's associate Abdul Halim (19).

A case was filed in this connection last night at Feni Sadar Model Police Station by Sub-Inspector (SI) of DB, Md Sohel Kamal, and the accused were transferred to Feni Model Police Station. 

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Feni DB police, Shah Md Faisal Ahmed, confirmed the development to our local correspondent.
