4 Dhaka hospitals get 'One Stop Emergency and Casualty' service

Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) today introduced the country's first "One Stop Emergency and Casualty" (OSEC) service at four hospitals in Dhaka to provide emergency patients with diagnostics and treatment.

The hospitals are: Kurmitola General Hospital, Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital, Mugda Medical College Hospital and Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital. Currently only Kurmitola General Hospital is receiving patients in their OSEC service unit. The others are ready and will soon start treating emergency patients at their OSEC service unit as well.

"We have taken an initiative to introduce this service at all medical college hospitals, district hospitals and upazila health complexes gradually," Zahid Maleque said while inaugurating the centre as chief guest.

In addition to saving many lives by providing timely treatment, OSEC units will also reduce patients' hospital stay, the minister added.

"This initiative aims at making all modern services available for an emergency patient under one roof ...We have supplied necessary modern equipment [to the OSEC]. If these can be used, our objective of introducing the OSEC will be fruitful."

Prof Abul Bashar Mohammad Khurshid Alam, director general of the DGHS; Brigadier General Fazlul Kabir, director of KGH; and Sheikh Mohammad Daud Adnan, DGHS director (hospitals and clinics) attended the event among others.
