Area-wise weekly shutdown for factories announced

The government has fixed area-wise weekly closure for factories on different days in order to ensure uninterrupted power supply to industrial zones of the country.

The Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments under the Ministry of Labour and Employment issued a notification in this regard this afternoon (August 11, 2022).

The notification, signed by Nasir Uddin Ahmed, inspector general of the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments said, "Exercising the power of section 114 (2) of the Bangladesh Labour Act, 2006, the weekly shutdown has been fixed for industrial establishments across the country in public interest."

The weekly shutdown has been fixed until further orders, reads the notification.

Earlier on August 7, 2022, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said that the government decided to implement zone-wise weekly shutdown of industries to save electricity and continue production in mills and factories.
