The project will train graduates entering the workforce on foundational skills such as digital and financial literacy

"The graduate employment programme we are launching today [Sunday] is a key component of the FutureNation agenda aimed at realising the goal of the country's youth to convert a set of capabilities to higher paying jobs both locally and globally by assessing and instilling the right skills for the corporate sector and industries," said Sudipto Mukerjee, the UNDP's resident representative for Bangladesh.

"The people who do general graduation don't do career planning. So, providing skills to this category of people is the most important aspect," said Salman F Rahman, private industry and investment adviser to the Prime Minister.

He said as there is an upsurge in the demand for freelancing, many have come forward with freelancing training courses.

Zunaid Ahmed Palak, the state minister for ICT, Yasir Azman, chief executive officer of Grameenphone, and Md Sirazul Islam, executive chairman of Bida, also spoke at the event.
