The High Court today (August 7, 2022) issued a rule asking the government and Shyamoli Paribahan to explain in two weeks why they should not be directed to give Tk 1.71 crore as compensation to the seven victims of a road accident that happened in Bogura on April 25 this year.
Two people were killed and four others were injured after a bus hit an ambulance carrying the body of a deceased and its family members on the Dhaka-Bogura highway in Sherpur upazila of Bogura.

The accident happened as the Dhaka-bound Shyamoli Paribahan bus allegedly entered on the wrong side of the road and hit the ambulance from the opposite direction.
The deceased were Aynal Hossain (50) of Kamla Bazar of Gaibandha Sadar upazila and ambulance driver Din Mohammad (30) of Kawkhali upazila of Pirojpur.
In the accident, Aynal's daughter Rozina Khatun and his three sons Md Forhad Hossain, Md Firoz Hossain and Md Forid Hossain got severely injured. They are now receiving treatment at the Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura.
The ambulance was heading towards Gaibandha carrying the body of deceased Aynal Haque's wife from Dhaka. Aynal died on the spot and Din Mohammad died on the way to the hospital.
Today, the HC bench of Justice KM Kamrul Kader and Justice Mohammad Ali issued the rule following a writ petition.
The petition was filed collectively by Din Mohammad's wife Doli Parvin; Rozina; Forhad, Firoz, Forid and Md Dulfizur Rahman Ratan, assistant of the destroyed ambulance, and Md Abdul Ali Bashar, director of People Reanimate and Advancement Council, owner of the ambulance.
The respondents to the rule are: the secretaries at the ministries of road transport and highways and law, justice and parliamentary affairs; the chairman of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority and managing director of Shyamoli NR Travels (Shaymoli Paribahan), petitioners' lawyer Mohamad Shishir Manir told The Daily Star.
The HC bench also directed the chairman of the trustee board, formed under the Road Safety Act, 2018, to inform this court about the progress of raising funds for compensating the road accident victims, he said.
