Job seekers demonstrate refusing age limit relaxation of some govt jobs

A group of job seekers demonstrated in front of the National Museum in the capital's Shahbagh this afternoon (October 1, 2022) demanding to increase the age limit from 30 to 35 for entering government jobs.

They also refused the decision of the Ministry of Public Administration, which has relaxed the age limit for the candidates for some of the government jobs, reports our Dhaka University correspondent.

According to a circular of the public administration ministry issued on September 22, if any candidate was 30 years of age on March 25, 2020, he or she will be eligible to apply for a government job (except for Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) that advertised till June 2023.

Hundreds of jobless youths gathered at Shahbagh around 3 pm and chanted slogans refusing the ministry's decision.

"The age limit was 27 for entering the job when life expectancy was 39. It was 30 in 1991 when life expectancy was 50. The limitation is now the same when our life expectancy is 73. We think it is inhuman to us," said Imtiaz Hossain, spokesperson of Bangladesh Sadharon Chhatra Parishad.

Another spokesperson Sonia Chowdhury said general students are much affected due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Without considering this side, the government relaxed for only 39 months.
