Reform of constitution needed to resolve current political crisis

Bringing reforms to the country's constitution is needed to resolve the country's current political crisis.

"Constitutional amendment is a legal term that deals with an already existing constitution. On the other hand, constitutional reform is a political term which is determined by people, not by the court. People will determine which parts of the constitution need to be reformed," Rashtrochinta member Ar Raji said in a discussion meeting according to a press release.

Ar Raji, who is also an assistant professor of the Communication and Journalism department at Chittagong University, said the constitutional crisis has resulted in the political and economic crisis.

"It is a sign of hope that a consensus has been formed among different sectors in Bangladesh over the question constitutional reforms. But the ambiguity on how the reforms will take place is not over," he added.

Professor Asif Nazrul, a teacher of Dhaka university, said the current crisis has intensified due to previous amendments and therefore, reforms must be brought to the constitution.
