Man charged with statutory rape

A 31-year-old man accused of statutory rape has been denied bail.

Jahmal Daniels, of Farrington Road, appeared before Deputy Chief Magistrate Debbye Ferguson on a charge of unlawful sexual intercourse.

Prosecutors allege that Daniels, who is also known as Jason Rolle, raped the 14-year-old girl on January 3.

Daniels was not required to enter a plea to the charge and was advised of his right to seek bail in the Supreme Court.

Daniels returns to court on February 28. At that time, it is expected that the case will be fast-tracked to the Supreme Court for trial by a voluntary bill of indictment.
