2 killed in attack on district chief residence

SAR-I-PUL (Pajhwok): Two individuals have been killed and three others wounded as a result of a militant attack on the Sayyad district chief’s residence in northern Sar-i-Pul province, an official said on Monday.

Police spokesman Zabihullah Amani told Pajhwok Afghan News the incident took place on Sunday night.

He said a son and uncle of district chief Hayatullah Hayat were killed while two of his relatives and a guard were wounded.

According to Amani, the district chief’s house and vehicle were also torched in the attack.

Pajhwok could not contact the district chief but his relatives said the militants besieged his house and staged the attack, taking advantage of darkness.

The rebels have not yet commented on the incident.
