HANOI, June 10 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam recorded 219 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, including 211 locally transmitted and eight imported, bringing the total tally to 9,784, according to the Vietnamese Ministry of Health.
Among the community cases, 188 were reported in quarantine facilities or lockdown areas. In terms of localities, 98 were detected in the northern epidemic hotspot Bac Giang province, 61 in the southern Ho Chi Minh City, and 38 in the northern Bac Ninh province.
Most of the new cases were found to be contacts of previously confirmed cases or linked to the clusters of infections in the localities.
Nationwide, as many as 3,708 patients have so far recovered from the coronavirus epidemic, an increase of 72 from Wednesday, and over 184,700 people are being quarantined and monitored, showed the official data.
As of Thursday, Vietnam has registered a total of 8,165 domestically transmitted COVID-19 cases, including 6,595 detected since the start of the latest outbreak in late April, according to the health ministry.
