A new classroom building for the Nasau Youth Training Centre in Sigatoka, which was funded by the Japanese government, has turned into a beacon of hope for some youth.
The state-of-the-art $229,829 classroom block provides a base for the programme on climate adaptation and disaster risk reduction, equipping participants with the information and necessary know-how to reduce risks and adapt to the changing environment. The construction of the facility was completed by Fortech Construction Pte Ltd.

Mr Saukuru extended his appreciation to Kawakami Fumihiro, the ambassador of Japan to Fiji, for their kind sponsorship and assistance, which solidified the close ties between the two countries.
“This programme not only empowers our students but also aligns perfectly with our government’s vision of building a resilient and sustainable Fiji,” Mr Saukuru said.
“Through education and training, we aim to create a generation that is well-prepared for potential disasters and actively contributes to the development and implementation of climate adaptation strategies.”
Mr Fumihiro said Japan funded the project under its Grassroots Grant Assistance Scheme to upgrade the training institution.
“As the youth are the future, a key component of our engagement with this project is collaboration with the Fiji Government to empower the leaders of tomorrow,” Mr Fumihiro said.
