Nalaubu Strikes Winner As Western Two Reaches Final

Star Fiji football striker, Sairusi Nalaubu scored the decisive winning goal for Western Two to book a spot against hosts, Northern in the 2023 Police Inter-formation Football Tournament. 

The Lincoln Refrigeration sponsored- tournament being played at Subrail Park in Labasa have so far lived up to expectations. 

In the second semi-final, Nalaubu slammed home the winner outside the 18-yard box to defeat Central 1-0. 

Nalaubu attributed to the goal to his teammates who supplied him with many goal scoring chances. 

“It’s an overall team performance and we are ready for the final”. 

Nalaubu said self-belief, confidence and the aim to play to the last whistle led to their win. 

Central coach, Timoci Wacabula, was impressed with his team’s effort 

He said they reached the semi-final stage of the tournament for the first-time. 

“We performed above expectations and we thank Western Two for a good game,” he said. 

The side managed to win their first game of the tournament by beating Eastern 2-0 in pool play. 

He believed the lapse of concentration in the dying stages of the second half led to Nalaubu grabbing the winning goal. 

“Looking at the caliber of players in the Western team, they will be hard to defeat in the final,” he warned. 

More than 500 fans gathered to witness the final day of action with the final to be played at 4pm today.
