On 7 June the US dollar exchange rate dropped at Ashgabat “black market” and was sold at 17,5 manats and bought at 18 manats. Since March 2021 the US dollar was fluctuating slightly at 19,5 manats per dollar.
According to foreign currency speculators, this is related to the fact that the government has allocated foreign currency for the purchase of groceries.
On 4 June President Serdar Berdymukhammedov dismissed Deputy Prime Ministers overseeing agriculture and trade for failure to achieve targets in import substitution.
The head of state also announced that $150 million had been allocated to entrepreneurs engaged in import substitution and an additional $150 million – for the purchase of groceries abroad.
