French Open Glance: Nadal, Serena Williams in Day 2 action

PARIS (AP) — A quick look at the French Open:

Serena Williams and Rafael Nadal highlight the Day 2 schedule, playing in back-to-back matches on Court Philippe Chatrier. Williams begins her attempt to win a 24th Grand Slam title by facing Kristie Ahn on Monday in a rematch of their all-American first-round meeting at the U.S. Open. Nadal’s bid to add to his record 12 French Open championships and to equal Roger Federer’s men’s mark of 20 Grand Slam singles trophies starts against Egor Gerasimov of Belarus. Also on Chatrier: Reigning U.S. Open champion Dominic Thiem will face 2014 U.S. Open champion Marin Cilic; Thiem beat Cilic en route to the title in New York this month. Also in action on a busy day: major champions Garbiñe Muguruza and Petra Kvitova, 2019 U.S. Open runner-up Daniil Medvedev — who is 0-3 for his career at Roland Garros — and 2019 French Open runner-up Marketa Vondrousova.
