Mekhi Becton out as Jets’ injury mess gets even more absurd

Jets top rookie Mekhi Becton suffered a shoulder injury and was ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Colts, the team said.

The 21-year-old offensive tackle, whom the Jets drafted 11th overall in the 2020 NFL Draft, headed to the locker room just prior to the two-minute warning before halftime as the Jets trailed 17-7.

Conor McDermott took Becton’s spot at left tackle.

Becton has been one of the lone bright spots for the 0-2 Jets this season, anchoring the offensive line. He was the only Jets player to kneel during the national anthem before Sunday’s game (it was the first time this season the Jets opted to go onto the field for the national anthem).

The Jets are already dealing with a slew of injuries to starters, and are on track to miss the playoffs for the 10th season.
