Another installment of HBO’s “rich white people with secrets” saga has come to a close. Last night, HBO aired The Undoing finale, which brought the six-part limited series to a bombastic close. While The Undoing ending was relatively twist-free (especially when compared to its genre counterparts), it still left viewers desperate for more intrigue, more auctions, and way more ridiculously expensive clothes. All this is to say: will there be a Season 2 of The Undoing?
This question may have a relatively simple answer, but that won’t stop us from digging in to it — just as The Undoing did with its central murder mystery. Is The Undoing only one season? Will there be an Undoing Season 2? Keep reading to find out!
IS THE UNDOING ONLY ONE SEASON?
As of now, yes. HBO billed The Undoing as a six-part limited series, which means that it was scheduled to run for just one season. However…
WILL THERE BE A SEASON 2 OF THE UNDOING?
If Big Little Lies taught us anything, it is possible for an HBO limited series to be expanded into a full drama series. HBO has not yet announced if The Undoing will be renewed for a second season (it took nearly six months for HBO to order BLL Season 2), but if the premium cabler does expand the drama, fans can expect an announcement in the months ahead.
THE UNDOING FINALE RECAP: WHO KILLED ELENA?
For weeks, The Undoing has been casting doubt on the guilt of Jonathan Fraser (Hugh Grant), a child oncologist accused of killing his mistress Elena Alvez (Matilda DeAngelis), but in the finale, the show finally played its hand. A flashback revealed that Jonathan did, in fact, kill Elena the night of the Reardon auction, but it ultimately was his wife, Grace Fraser (Nicole Kidman), who did him in.
After seeing Jonathan’s lack of remorse come to the forefront, Grace concocted a plan that enabled her to reveal the full truth about her husband’s Narcissistic Personality Disorder on the witness stand. The next morning, Jonathan kidnapped their son Henry (Noah Jupe) and attempted to flee the city, but he was caught by authorities (and his wife and father-in-law in a helicopter).
DOES THE UNDOING ENDING LEAVE ROOM FOR SEASON 2?
The Undoing ends with Jonathan’s arrest, so there’s most certainly room for the show to continue the action, should HBO decide to do so. Clearly, there are plenty more secrets for this show to uncover.
IS THE UNDOING ON NETFLIX? HOW TO WATCH THE UNDOING
The Undoing is not on Netflix, but HBO subscribers can watch it on HBO or HBO Max, WarnerMedia’s new streaming service.
