Draft Constitution finalised

DRAFT CONSTITUTION SENT FOR PRINTING

The Draft Constitution for the country has been finalised and sent for printing, which would be complete before the current month is out. The Drafting Committee would sit on September 30 to give a final look to the Draft Constitution, which has been originally prepared in Bangla. TheEnglish version of the draft has also been prepared. The Bangla version will be taken as base of interpretation in future, in case of any constitutional hitch or tangle. The Draft Constitution has laid down that any citizen of Bangladesh irrespective of caste, creed, religion or race could become the head of the state if he attains the minimum age of 35 years. As for Prime Minister, any citizen of 18 years could contest the election and become the Prime Minister of the country.

BANGABANDHU VISITS HIS AILING PARENTS

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, despite heavy engagement and ill-heath, goes to see his ailing parents today, who are at present staying at the Minto Road official residence of their son-in-law Land Revenue Minister Abdur Rab Serneabat. He stays with them till they permit their loving son to take leave of them for the night.

BANGLADESH GETS IPU MEMBERSHIP

The annual conference of the Inter-Parliamentary Union votes nearly unanimously today to grant membership to Bangladesh, but rejects an application by North Korea. The international body, which fosters contacts between national parliaments, began its meeting in the Italian chamber of Deputies building in Rome. It is reported that the Bangladesh delegation to the IPU conference will raise the question of the repatriation of Bangalis stranded in Pakistan in that forum. Shah Moazzam, leader of the delegation, says that they will try to utilise to the maximum their contact with parliamentarians from the IPU member countries.
