Karen Bevans, Director of Tourism
“We are gathered here this afternoon to witness the signing of a letter of intent for tourism cooperation between Belize and the Republic of China (Taiwan). This letter of intent will not only identify areas in which we can cooperate and benefit from the use of resources and skills, but will also signal a first step in developing further relations to continue to strengthen and develop our tourism industries. I am sure that there are many areas in which Belize and the Republic of China (Taiwan) can cooperate and build synergies. But for us to consider the tourism industry as a priority area in which we can today sign a letter of intent for cooperation, is indeed a positive indication of the importance of tourism to our socioeconomic development. I, personally, in my capacity as the Director of Tourism for Belize, am extremely pleased with our discussions so far where we have been able to highlight specific areas that can surely make a positive difference in Belize’s tourism development. We are on the right path in growing tourism and doing so responsibly and in a sustainable manner. We are truly excited about today’s first step and look forward with great expectation on what we believe will be significant results as Belize and the Republic of China (Taiwan) cooperate and collaborate to strengthen our much depended upon tourism sector.”
