P.U.P. Outraged at Multimillion-Dollar Contract Awarded to Imer Hernandez
The Opposition, People’s United Party, is outraged at today’s contract signing between Imer Hernandez, and Minister of Works, Rene Montero. The contract is for ten miles of road on the George Price Highway and has a value of more than nineteen million dollars. The P.U.P. says that its outrage is based on the many contracts given to Hernandez and the quality of the works done on those contracts. P.U.P. Leader John Briceño says that “the continuous awarding of very large contracts to the same contractor who has demonstrated his incompetence on every occasion, must lead Belizeans to believe that there is more to these contracts than meet the eye.

“Are you shock?”
“Are you, Sir?”
“With this government, no, absolutely not. I expected them to give it to someone like Imer Hernandez. I want you all to go to Orange Walk, the highway that he built. It is sinking in many areas. It is breaking up all over the place and now you are giving him another nineteen million dollars. Something is wrong there. Somebody is getting something. You as journalists need to do your investigation and investigate what is taking place there at the Ministry of Works. I want to tell you, when we get to Belmopan we are going to enact an anti corruption legislation and we are going to investigate the Ministry of Works. I am putting the Minister right now, I am calling his attention because we are going to check every single contract that he signed and he will have to give account on every penny that he spent. If he cannot give account for that money that he spent then he will have to answer in a court room. If he is found guilty then he will have to pay the price.”
