2955 First Time Home Owners Assisted

“This is one initiative Government intends to support to enable Fijians have access to adequate housing and own their first home.”

The objective of the First Home Purchase programme is to assist Fijians who intend to own their first home.

Since its inception in 2014, the First Home Ownership Initiative has helped Fijian households own a home.

The Ministry of Housing revealed that under category one of the First Home Ownership Initiative, $37,520,000 housing grant has assisted 2,955 first time home owners.

Category one of the First Home Ownership Initiative is for families whose annual household income is $50,000 or below.

In its first home initiative data, the Ministry of Housing has also revealed that under category two of the First Home Ownership Intiative, 475 families have become first time home owners.

Category two of the First Home Ownership Initiative is for families who have an annual household income between $50,001 to $100,000.

Ministry of Housing said in this same category, $5,305,000 housing grant assistance has been paid.

“The objective of the First Home Purchase programme is to assist Fijians who intend to own their first home by assisting them in securing funding with commercial banks by assisting with their equity contribution and ultimately reducing their home loan.

“This is one initiative Government intends to support to enable Fijians have access to adequate housing and own their first home.”

Ministry of Housing said all Fijians are eligible to apply for the First Home Purchase Programme.

However, the Ministry of Housing said applicants need to meet all the requirements to qualify for the housing grant assistance.

“And have or in the process of attaining legal ownership over land or property they wish to purchase or construct their first home.

“Fijians living in informal settlements or under customary land arrangement systems are not eligible for the First Home Purchase Program because they do not have any legal ownership over the land or property.”
