Kuruvoli Possible Substitute for Injured Muntz

While Raiwalui and his team scratch their heads and look over their list of players like Ben Volavola, Vilimoni Botitu and utility Kemu Valetini, Kuruvoli is there to dazzle in Muntz's place.

Simione Kuruvoli, who set up the try against England for the Flying Fijians’ historic 30-22 win 10 days ago at Twickenhan, London, could be a possible replacement for the injured Caleb Muntz at the Rugby World Cup in France.

Fiji Rugby Union on Wednesday confirmed that flyhalf Muntz was ruled out of the RWC after sustaining a knee injury during the team’s training on Monday.

Head coach Simon Raiwalui has yet to announce a replacement for Muntz. The other fly-half is Teti Tela. Scrum-half Kuruvoli is a reliable kicker who could fit like a glove.

Fiji opens its Pool C campaign against Wales at Bordeaux on Monday at 7am (Fiji time).

“Once we name the team for the match against Wales we will have utmost faith in whom we have selected,” Raiwalui said.

Muntz, a reliable goal-kicker and solid defensive firstfive, was born in Huntly and attended Hamilton Boys’ High School.

He has been part of the Fijian Drua Super Rugby squad for the past two seasons and made his Test debut for Fiji against Tonga this year.
