Naiqama likely to Head Fiji Bureau of Statistics

“Everyone knows the naked truth about his instant dismissal by the former A-G, who is known for cooking statistics. Mr Naiqama was unceremoniously removed from his office and marched out of the building by members of the former A-G’s protection team,” he said.

Policy Advisor for the Office of the Prime Minister, Kemueli Naiqama.

Kemueli Naiqama is likely to be reinstated as the head of the Fiji Bureau of Statistics from next Monday, it has been revealed.

Staff members at the bureau confirmed preparations were underway for his return.

Mr Naiqama was chief executive officer(CEO) until September 2021, when he was sacked for approving the publication of the Housing Income and Expenditure Survey 2019-2020, which had some unverified data.

The data, which was about ethnicity and religion, was believed to be extrapolated from invalid sources.

Mr Naiqama joined the Office of the Prime Minister as a policy advisor recently.

Minister for Statistics, Biman Prasad, said Government was working on righting wrong statistics since it took office eight months ago

“He is more than suitably qualified for the job,” Mr Prasad told the Fiji Sun.

“Everyone knows the naked truth about his instant dismissal by the former A-G, who is known for cooking statistics. Mr Naiqama was unceremoniously removed from his office and marched out of the building by members of the former A-G’s protection team,” he said.

Mr Naiqama was not available for a comment when contacted yesterday.
