The education system in Fiji and the Pacific is expected to improve tremendously in the near future with a new direction set by the Fiji Principals Association (FPA).

FPA members want to be the agent of change in the region by raising the standard of education provided to youths and children.

The roadmap is expected to be discussed during the FPA 128th annual conference at the Sofitel Fiji Resort in Nadi from September 27-28.

The association was boosted yesterday with a $10,000 donation from the Ferguson Education Group (FEG) to help host the conference.

FPA president Dr Rajesh Krishna received the cheque from FEG founder and chief executive officer (CEO) Ian Ferguson on Denarau Island.

Dr Krishna thanked FEG for their firm belief that school leadership has evolved over time and now school leaders need to be reasonably creative, authentic, and passionate and be visionary.

“This will enable them (principals) to become drivers of change and become promoters of sustainability to cultivate and recreate an environment to stimulate continuous improvement on a broad front,” he said.

Conference theme: Leading with Intention, connection, and direction.

Mr Ferguson said the organisation’s mission was to empower members professionally to enable them to become enriched with ideas and skills to lead their institutions towards affirmative change and foster quality and equitable education.

“A key goal of our organisation is to empower the youth of the Pacific Islands by helping them successfully transform and transcend their lives and to assist in helping them reach their full and limitless potential with the power of education,” he said.

“We recognise that the principals are the most influential educational leaders, and their leadership is inextricably linked to student performance. They actively promote the development of leaders and leadership teams within the school and their community to fully utilize the skills of staff, students, parents, and community members.”

Ferguson Education Group is a leading provider of international education to the youth within the Pacific Islands, including Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Tonga, and Samoa.
