OVER 4 000 FOR IMBUBE MARATHON

MBABANE – It is a full house for the returning Imbube Marathon.

Eswatini National Provident Fund (ENPF) Senior Marketing and Communications Officer Mlungisi Dlamini estimated the Imbube Marathon entries to be over 4 000. The fund organises the majestic race in partnership with several sponsors. Dlamini mentioned that the 10km entries have surpassed 2016’s overall tally after surpassing the 2 300 mark. This event has expectedly attracted more runners. With two days to go to the fifth edition of the Imbube Marathon, Dlamini mentioned that he was astounded by the 10km entries alone.

“My guess would be that the entries are over 4 000, because the 10km category surprised us this year. When the marathon started in 2016, we had about 2 300 total entries, but this year in the 10km category, when I checked on Friday there were 2 400 entries, so it is possible that the 10km alone will have a possible 2 800 entries,” he said. Dlamini revealed that there was more interest in this year’s edition of the Imbube Marathon. The celebrated event, which is headlined by a full marathon (42.2km) will be staged at Somhlolo National Stadium. Both young and old will be accommodated. The shortest event is 3.3km and it is open to senior citizens and those with disabilities.
