‘GUDAS’ IMPRESSES SA PREMIERSHIP SIDE

MBABANE – You cannot keep a good man down.

This adage is  true for former Manzini Wanderers gifted midfielder, Bonginkosi ‘Gudas’ Dlamini, who has reportedly impressed DStv Premiership side Polokwane City. The workaholic midfielder signed for one year with the hub giants in the past season and had a fair season with the team. ‘Gudas’, as  he is fondly known, helped the once feared side to avoid relegation in the recently-concluded 2022/23 season. Impeccable sources have revealed that the player who is not only gifted with a football talent, but is also one of the Manzini Regional Pool Association (MRPA) development projects, has been in South Africa for the past two weeks. “‘Gudas’ left the country two weeks ago and has been training with Polokwane City. The team has been impressed with the boy and he will know his fate by the end of the week,” shared the source.

Polokwane City Football Club is a South African professional football club based in the city of Polokwane in the Limpopo province that has won back promotion to the top division. The team currently plays its home matches at the Peter Mokaba Stadium. Polokwane City won the Motsepe Foundation Championship to gain automatic promotion to the top-flight by a narrow margin in goal difference. They ended the season equal on 57 points with Cape Town Spurs. The Limpopo outfit makes a return to the DStv Premiership, following their relegation during the 2019/20 season. The source went on to reveal that Dlamini was having a great time in the Phuti Mohafe outfit and looked disciplined. “He has shed so much weight and has been showing a great level of discipline, especially because the public perceives him as a naughty player. He looks like a changed person and it will be a surprise if the team decides against signing him,” said the source. Manzini Wander Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Diana Girlie Johnson when contacted about the player said Gudas was not their player after his contract was not renewed. “He is not our player,” she said briefly.

Meanwhile Mbabane Swallows stylish playmaker, Banele ‘Pupu’ Sikhondze was another Eswatini player who played for the Limpopo-based side after he was reportedly signed for E450 000 in the 2018/2019 season. The former Mbabane giants’ player becomes the sixth player to have attracted interest from South African teams. Justice Figuareido recently signed for Richard Bay in the DStv Premiership league and AmaZulu FC is another team reportedly eyeing to sign Swallows’ ‘Pupu’. Another player believed to be on the radar of SA teams was Green Mamba box-to-box midfielder Mxolisi ‘Kudus’ Mkhonto, who was recently named the MTN Premier League player of the season after helping Inyoka Eluhlazane win the MTN Premier League. The latter is believed to have impressed Royal AM technical team ahead of the start of the new season. The MaMkhize-owned side was also reported to be interested in the services of three Mbabane Highlanders players.
