LNG pipeline segment LOs elect director to company

PNG LNGs pipeline segment seven landowners have successfully elected their representative director to the board of the trustee company, Gas Resources PNG LNG Pipeline Limited, last Wednesday.
Mr Wauro Omabe from the Omati tribe was elected through an election process conducted by the Electoral Commission and facilitated by Mineral Resources Development Company.
The election was held after completing a successful two week exercise for awareness and bank account opening in Kikori, Gulf Province for the pipeline segment seven landowners.
The 36 clan heads from five major tribes nominate four candidates from their 36 clans on Monday, and then on Wednesday, successfully elected Mr Oumabe who received a total of 21 votes out of 36.
MRDC managing director Augustine Mano upon being advised of the results congratulated the new director elect Mr Oumabe to the board and thanked the 36 clan heads for a successful election process.
“You 36 clan chairmen represent your people and through this outcome, your people have chosen this leader who will represent them at the board level,’’ he said.
“I encourage him to represent his people and their needs well. I hope to see that he is able to make an impact in their lives as he holds this position for the next 4 years.
“The rest of the board and i look forward to officially welcoming the new director and look forward to working with him to deliver the rightful benefits from the gas project to segment seven.”
Mr Oumabe thanked MRDC, Department of Petroleum, and the PNG Electoral Commission for being with the community to run the exercise making it successful, open, and transparent.
He also thanked the clan heads, and reassured them that he would work together with them to make sure Segment seven benefits flow.
The five major tribes in Segment seven are Omati, Kerewo, Kibiri, Kopi and Barikewa.
Mr Oumabe now waits as director elect to be joined by three others representing segments six -one who will go through the same process in the coming weeks.
