Public servants to sign Will: MP

THE crime of fraud using stolen inheritance has prompted the Department of Personnel Management to act on having public servants sign their Will.

A circular will be issued by the Secretary for the Department of Personnel Management and for all agency heads to have their employees sign their Will to be forwarded to the officer of the Public Curator.

Minister for Public Service Elias Kapavore said the restoration efforts by Minster responsible for Justice Davis Steven has prompted his ministry to support the call by the Attorney-General and have responsible public servants sign their Will.

“All signed Will by public servants would be forwarded to the Office of the Public Curator,” he said.

The efforts of the Public Curator’s office have not gone unnoticed with Momase and the Highlands region joining the “Legacy Walk”.

The “Legacy Walk” on Wills Probate Awareness is partnership awareness with South Pacific Post and Public Curator’s office aiming to educate people on the importance of signing their will

The wills probate awareness will last for three months.

Public curator Jacob Popuna has often urged workers to sign a will to avoid cases of family assets claimed by relatives of those who have died without the family the wife and children receiving anything.

He said about 99 per cent of women and children are suffering from such situations at the moment.
