Serial sex suspect appears in court

AN alleged sexual predator is facing the Waigani Committal Court after he was charged in relation to a string of child abduction and rape cases which were reported in September and October.

The accused, Sam Kissi, 37, of mixed Madang and Enga parentage, appeared in court on Monday for three counts of abduction, deprivation of personal liberty and sexual penetration of a minor after he was identified by three of his victims — all pre-teen primary school girls.

Police reports indicate that the accused had used the same method with each of his victims, each time luring the young girls into his car with promises of buying them food or clothes and giving them money.

When the children were in his car he drove them to different locations around Port Moresby where he raped them before dropping them off near where they lived.

According to police reports, the accused was caught after he had picked up his third victim.

The accused tricked the child into getting into his car and drove her all the way from Six-Mile to Taurama under the pretence of buying betelnuts.

After realising that something was not right, the child struggled with her kidnapper, screaming and slapping him before she turned the car steering wheel, which forced the car into a ditch at Vadavada.

The child got out of the car and ran towards a group of women nearby, who alerted police.

The court is expected to make a determination soon on whether to commit the matter to trial in the National Court.
