Sixty picked for youth camp

SIXTY youths from throughout the country will come together in Port Moresby this month for the annual Mike Manning youth democracy camp which aims to empower and educate young people to be better citizens.
Transparency International PNG (TIPNG) youth integrity programme coordinator Elizabeth Aribi said that it was Transparency International’s goal to use the event to raise a generation of well-informed young Papua New Guineans.
The camp will be at Bomana from Thursday to Sep 23 and will focus on the theme: I am empowered and ready to take action.
“We hope to inform, educate, inspire and empower the young participants to realise their roles and responsibilities in creating a better country,” Aribi said.
She said the camp started in 2007and it had been taking participants through simulations, presentations and hands-on activities on how to conduct fair elections, draft, debate and pass laws and learn the role of the media and other principles of democracy.
The participants will come from schools, churches and communities nationwide.
TIPNG is set to host its 11th Mike Manning Youth Democracy Camp from the 13th – 23rd of September 2018 at Bomana in Port Moresby.
