State owned entity Telikom PNG Limited continues to invest in sports development especially for players and teams.
On Wednesday, the company once again stepped in to help with a cheque for K11,400 towards Public Servants Netball Association who will be travelling for the 2018 Pan Pacific Masters Games.
The sporting event will be hosted from November 2-11 on the Gold Coast and a team of about 100 netballers from the competition are gearing up to claim gold medal.
Their last performance resulted in them winning a bronze medal. They are serious about their prospects and have been training since April.
Present to officially hand over the cheque was Telikom PNG’s national retail manager Amos Tepi who said that the company felt it was right to support the public servants.
“Sport is one of those areas that public servants need to go in to and embrace, also that brings development back with productivity in the work place,” he said.
Ralai Benedict and Hagar Sunana from the Department of Finance who represented the association thanked Telikom for supporting the team.
“There’s about a 100 women (public servant netball players) going down and we are in five divisions (age groups),” said Benedict.
The team of public servants travelling includes those who often take part in the public servants netball competitions hosted in the nation’s capital. The team consists of players from different departments, statutory bodies, government entities within the public service.
Benedict said they went out of their way to raise fund that will go to meet their levies. But since airfares had increased, the financial support from Telikom will go towards meeting players and team officials’ airfares.
Apart from the support by Telikom, the association also receives assistance from other government departments including their engagements in fundraising events to raise funds for the team.
