Mogadishu (HOL) - Members of al Shabaab fighters on Wednesday surrendered to government forces in Baidoa, the interim capital of the southwest regional state government.
The fighters who defected from al-Shabaab are Mohamed Ali Ishaq, Mukhtar Mohamed Ibrahim, Hassan Abdikarin Sheikh, Abdullahi Sankus Mohamed, and Mohamed Jeelow Sharif, according to officials from the Somali National Army's 60th Division.
The military officials call on other al-Shabaab fighters to surrender to the Somali National Army to side with the people.
The al-Qaeda-linked armed group al-Shabab, which has been fighting to topple the internationally-backed government, stages deadly attacks in the country.
