‘Operasi Kelinga’ uncovers eight labour violations

Eight violations were unearthed in two separate operations conducted by the Law Enforcement Division under the Labour Department.

The first inspection in Kampong Pulaie found two offences under the Employment Order 2009 committed by the employer, under Section 86 for failing to obtain permission for the place of employment and failing to reorganise the placement of additional workers, and Section 112 (2) for violating the conditions of foreign employment licence, where the workers were found doing construction work.

The second inspection at Jalan McArthur found six offences under the Employment Order 2009 committed by the employer, Section 63 for failing to provide rest, Section 65 for working exceeding the set working hours, Section 70 for failing to provide public holidays, Section 82 for failing to provide emergency equipment, Section 112 (1) for employing foreign workers without possessing foreign worker licence, and Section 112 (2) for violating the terms of the foreign worker hiring licence.

For the offences, if found guilty, the employer is subjected to a fine of not more than BND1,000 for each offence. The employer will be brought to court if he fails to pay the fine. – Azlan Othman
